User InterfaceZen of User Interface
Generally Scribe will only pop up a message box when you have clicked a command
or menu. If some automatic process fails, like connecting to an account then
the status panel displays an error indicator to inform you. That way it doesn't interrupt
your work flow. It is important for the application not to take the focus away
from what the user is doing.
While more complicated user interface could be employed by Scribe I prefer to leave things simple and resist bloating the software out with little used features. Things like customizable/dockable toolbars are not needed and don't really add much to an application. The list view on the right contains all the items in the current folder. You can resize named columns by grabbing the right edge of the column heading. And you can rearrange the columns order by left clicking in the middle of the column heading and dragging it to a new place. You can change the sorting of the items by clicking on the column heading of the field you want the items sorted by. And clicking it again reverses the sort. To change the fields displayed in the list view, right click on the column headings which displays a list of all the available fields. Visible fields are marked with a tick. Clicking any field toggles it's visibility. The tree view on the left contains all the folders loaded in Scribe. You can rearrange the heirarchy of folders by left clicking and dragging. When you drop a folder on another, you get an option to join it as a child folder (right) or as the next folder below.
